...and VSO = Voluntary Service Overseas

Lesley is working as a VSO volunteer at Simao Teachers' College in the south-west province of Yunnan, China. Initially she  taught English language and methodology as well as HIV/AIDS awareness to trainee middle school and primary teachers, but from 2007 she has been developing a teacher training/student teaching practice exchange programme called PIE.. Lesley and her family came to Simao in August 2005, initially for a two year period. But in 2008 they were still there...

Lesley says:

"I have wanted to work for VSO for many years now, since I spent a year teaching English as a volunteer in Sri Lanka in 1988. VSO has years of experience of development work and I know that their placements are well-thought-out in conjunction with partner countries. We have experience and skills to share that can make a difference in the world. How can we turn our backs on that?"
