The pictures below show the view from our second night's camp at 3800m below HuoGai God Mountain (in shadow on the left, in the right-hand photo). It is early morning, August, and a keen wind is blowing from the north. The yaks have already been milked (the women got up at 3am to do this) and herded (by the men) to their morning grazing land; the sheep have yet to be dealt with - the 7-year old shepherd lad is probably still asleep! The women have just finished picking up the overnight yak dung and spread it (with their bare hands) on the grass to dry. Their next task will be to collect water from the spring (half an hour away by yak). Then they will start the laborious process of separating the yak butter from the milk.
We arranged the trek through Langmusi Tibet Horse Treks. This small outfit is highly recommended - well organized and good value. We had an experience which we'll never forget!
