The question we asked was: 'Why do spiders spin webs?' Here is Paul's answer: ''Percy Pimplebottom spins webs as the result of a generous Arts Council grant for 'innovative silken structures'. His new web will be featured in a Tate Gallery exhibition called 'Catching Flies the Esoteric Way'. Postcards are available.'' Actually Paul, the answer is to catch insects for them to eat. They stun them with a dose of poison, then inject a liquid into the insect which dissolves (digests?) their insides - then they wrap the poor wee thing up in silk and come back a few days later to suck out the juices. Mmm - you can see why Frodo got so upset when he was being stalked in Shelob's Lair! |
